Why UniSA?

UniSA engineering research is rated well above world-class1 and our students benefit from access to UniSA's prestigious Future Industries Institute, which is focussed on building knowledge and capacity in core future industries.

As a UniSA Engineering student, you’ll learn how to become an engineer and graduate career-ready by completing the UniSA STEM Professional Practice Program and gain at least 450 hours of skills and competencies through a range of engagement activities such as placements, internships, guest lectures, industry panels, site visits, networking and events.

The UniSA STEM Professional Practice Program will prepare you for a professional career in engineering and outstanding candidates may be offered further employment opportunities as a result of their initial experience. Undertaking a placement or industry experience means that you will have experience in your field and on your resume before you graduate from university.

You will graduate as a highly employable and professional engineer, with strong social and cultural sensibilities. Industry knowledge is embedded into our degrees in a number of different ways such as guest speakers, field trips and design projects, to ensure our students are well prepared for their careers. After graduation, you will be ready to work in diverse, interdisciplinary teams and to solve complex world problems.

All of our Engineering Honours programs share a common first-year, so choosing Engineering at UniSA offers you the ultimate flexibility. Should you wish to pursue a different specialty after completing your first-year, you can switch to an alternative Engineering program and receive credit for the courses completed. Start now, decide later.

On-campus teaching for Engineering programs is based at the Mawson Lakes campus. Only 20 minutes from the city centre with easy parking. The Mawson Lakes campus is also accessible by bus and train with the Mawson Lakes train station only a short walk.

What others are saying

Mechanical engineering is a global degree that gave me the opportunity to travel to Lancaster in the United Kingdom for a semester exchange. This meant that I got to learn about mechanical engineering in another country and gain credit for the subjects I studied. I also undertook a one year internship with an international ship building company that I now work full-time with.

The ease of access and breadth of learning resources available, including libraries, online journals and specialist applications, have made learning at UniSA stress-free and extremely insightful. With a focus on how engineering principles can be used to improve the health of an organisation, this course has allowed me to bridge the gap between organisational management and engineering management.

I did not choose engineering but engineering chose me; I have always been in love with math and physics and after finishing high school I realised that nothing but engineering would satisfy my love to these topics. Civil engineering is hands on application of knowledge in math and physics. I am hoping that one day; I will be able to help people in poor countries to build cheaper and more sustainable housing.

While studying I completed the Santos Vacation Program, where I worked in Brisbane for three months with a team of engineers looking at the maintenance tasks of newly built gas compressor stations. I was able to apply what I learnt through my UniSA studies into practice and it was a great experience.
